I went out after work and picked up Eucerin Calming Creme because yesterday’s post made me realize that I don’t put very much effort into moisturizing my skin beyond my face.
The product page notes that this product is “ideal for dry, itchy skin associated with atopic dermatitis (eczema) or cold winter weather.” Its formula includes colloidal oatmeal, which also caught my interest. Colloidal oatmeal is the result of oats that are very finely ground; baths with colloidal oatmeal added seem to be a very common home remedy for eczema, chicken pox, or other conditions that cause itchy skin. I’ve never used products with this ingredient in it, so I’m interested to see if it helps the itchiness on my arms. Cosmetics Info says:
As a skin protectant, Colloidal Oatmeal temporarily protects injured or exposed skin from harmful or annoying stimuli, and may therefore provide relief to the skin.
I’m going to be doing a little experiment with this product and hope to provide updates every couple days for the next few weeks about improvement in the look and feel, reduction of itchiness, etc. I applied Calming Creme to one arm and leg and Victoria’s Secret Love Spell body butter to the other arm and leg to see how big the difference in performances is between a product from a brand thatmakes products specifically for dry, sensitive skin and a product that is not designed for any particular skin type or condition (and is likely bought more often on the basis of its scent). Stay tuned!
