new hard candy products!

Recently I had Hard Candy Fox in a Box blush as my Wishlist Wednesday item because I spotted it earlier this week as a new addition to the HC display at Wal-Mart. Here are the pictures of the displays and new products that I was able to snap before my camera ran out of batteries.

Here’s the Fox in a Box I mentioned. From left to right: Hot Flash blush, Smooth Talker blush, Skinny Dipping bronzer, Truth or Dare bronzer, Spicy & Sweet blush

Concealers! My understanding is that these products have been available in the US for a while but I haven’t seen them in Vancouver until earlier this week. Undercover Agent is a dual-ended product with a stick concealer on one end and a liquid brightening product on the other. Glamoflauge seems to be touted as the more pigmented of the two, but I am a bit wary because more pigmentation often = more drying than sheerer products. The package includes a liquid tube concealer and a pencil concealer.

Glow All the Way offers three shades, two of which are pearly highlighters that come in generous-enough sizes to luminize both face and body. The left bottle is Glamazon Bronze, which is claimed to be “infused with 24-karat gold” for a golden highlight. In the middle is Doll Face, a cool pink highlighter. On the right is Tropical Tan, a bronzer and gradual self-tanner that also contained 24-karat gold.

I was really excited to see these. The Mini Must Haves are sets that include assorted miniature versions of Hard Candy products. The two sets on the left are geared towards eyes, with Lash Tinsel, mascara, eyeliner, eyeshadow primer, and baked eyeshadows. The two on the right are face-focused, featuring Blush Crush or bronzer (depending on the set), Glow All The Way luminizer, face primer, and plumping gloss or lip gloss. Great deal for $8 CAD.

Which ones are you excited to check out in store?

wishlist wednesday: hard candy fox in a box blush

Okay so I am just barely making it in as it is no longer Wednesday anywhere except on the west coast (sorry), but here we go!

I spied some new goodies from Hard Candy yesterday at Wal-Mart~~ One of the products that caught my eye was Fox in a Box. With its box packaging and included flat rectangular blush, it immediately drew comparisons of Benefit’s boxed blushes for me. The three blushes are actually quads, with four shades in each box, while the two bronzers are duos. I’m a big fan of this type of packaging where multiple shades can be swept up together with a brush and become one shade, yet you could also use the shades individually.

FYI just from checking them out in person, the included brush seems rather cheap, coarse, and not very dense, unlike the brushes that come with the Benefit blushes.

Considering I wouldn’t stfu about how lovely Blush Crush in Living Doll is, I really have high hopes for these blushes. I’ve really got my eye on the two pinker shades, Hot Flash (pictured) and Spicy & Sweet.

jkjoykim asked: Idk if these are found in Canada, but you should try the N.Y.C. Blushable Creme Sticks. They're VERY cheap ($3-4 USD) & they give the most natural looking color to your face. they're in a stick, like NARS multiples, so they're great for carrying around and easy application.

(read you were gonna visit the states soon so thought you might want to check those out!) :)

Oh & they can be found at most drugstores, targets, walmarts, etc

I checked these out today on your recommendation! They seem like a new-ish product so it’s kind of hard to find (it was at Rexall), but they look very promising. I’m def planning on picking up at least 2 shades. Thank you for the suggestion and for reading! :>

wishlist wednesday: sonia kashuk super sheer liquid tint blush

I’m planning on having a day trip to the States this weekend with a good friend. Naturally, this means picking up tons of makeup that is much easier to find or just plain cheaper south of the border. I’ve been browsing Target, Walgreens, etc. for stuff to keep an eye out for and one of the things that popped up was Sonia Kashuk Super Sheer Liquid Tint blush.

I prefer powder blush because I find that gel/liquid/cream blushes can sometimes be hard to blend or feel tacky, but I’m hearing good things about thisun: it provides a subtle, flattering wash of colour while also feeling light and giving you plenty of time to blend. The three shades available (Rose, Peony, and Poppy) look bright and kind of intimidating, but reviewers are saying that it looks quite natural and lovely—so long as you use only a very small amount. With all the emphasis on using only the teeniest amounts, I’m expecting this blush to last me basically forever.

review: hard candy blush crush baked blush in living doll

Hello, hello~ this review has been sitting on the backburner for a while because I didn’t have the time to edit the pictures/could not bear to stare at a screen some more after being at work all day. In the meantime though, I have been wearing this very blush every day. I’m in love with how this blush brightens up my face in the middle of winter, and I love how I can put it on at 6:30 am before work and still see it on my cheeks at 6:30 pm.

Under artificial lighting, no flash

Hard Candy Blush Crush blushes come in sturdy clamshell packaging that belie its seriously affordable price. Since they’re baked, I think the blush inside is also less likely to crumble or break if you drop it.

Living Doll is the second blush I’ve tried from the Hard Candy line but it comes first in my heart <3  Its sister Honeymoon is soft, sweet and demure. Pin Up is more bright and fun.

Flash, artificial lighting. This picture is the one that most accurately captures the colour of this blush in the pan I think.

And yes, it is on the cooler side, though maybe not as cool as the swatches suggest. Since I’m neutral-toned I can wear it just fine but I’m not sure about how it will wear on those that are warm-toned.

Swatches under artificial light with no flash.

As with Honeymoon, this blush can be used wet for a more dramatic look. On the left is Honeymoon dry (it’s a little hard to see because of its paleness/subtlety) and wet, then Living Doll dry and wet. Using it wet intensifies the shimmer in the blush, while the dry is more wearable and the shimmer is subtle enough to wear in the office.

Swatches under artificial light, with flash.

Love what the subtle shimmer does for my cheekbones :3 This is how I wear this blush to work. Oh yeah, and excuse me looking like a corpse.

Pros:

  • super affordable
  • versatile: can be built up from subtle to dramatic
  • sturdy packaging
  • long-wearing

Cons:

  • may not suit warm-toned skin

No regrets here. I love this blush and what it does for me. I haven’t tried wearing it wet but I can give it a shot if there are any requests for it :> If you are cool- to neutral-toned then it is an awesome purchase. I’m a bit more hesitant to recommend it to warm-toned ladies but I don’t want to outright say it’s definitely not a good shade for them.

review: hard candy blush crush baked blush in honeymoon

Have you gotten a chance to lurk your closest Wal-Mart to check out the Hard Candy makeup collection? Cute packaging, fun product names (Glamoflauge concealer, Welcome Matte pressed powder), budget-friendly pricing and positive reviews all make it pretty hard to stay away! In particular, I read Rae’s review of Honeymoon a while back shortly before my roadtrip to Washington, so of course I totally omg had to get it. Luckily, I’ve spotted this collection at local Wal-Marts here in Canada recently, so Canadian girls don’t have to wait in line at the border to get these now.

wishlist wednesday: mac bite of an apple blush

Like many other makeup lovers, I’ve been hearing and seeing a lot of pre-release stuff about MAC Venomous Villains in the last few weeks. I gotta say that I’m on the side that finds packaging for VV products a little boring and/or uninspiring, but I have fallen for the contents of a few items from the collection, one of them being Bite of an Apple blush, inspired by the Evil Queen from Snow White. As you know, I’m a complete sucker for corals, so naturally I’m attracted to the lovely bright coral-ness of this matte blush. I guess I’m not the only one that is into it, because it’s already sold out on the MAC website!

Other personal faves from MAC Venomous Villains are Toxic Tale and Heartless lipsticks, She Who Dares and My Dark Magic Mineralize Eye Duos, and Briar Rose Beauty Powder (it’s pretty clear I like the colour palettes of Maleficient and the Evil Queen over Cruella De Vil and Dr. Facilier…)

You can check out the swatches for this blush at Temptalia.

wishlist wednesday: hard candy blush crush

On my US day drip, I gave these pretty baked blushes the cold shoulder because I felt bad about how much I had already spent and didn’t want to be tempted into spending more. I kind of regret it because I’ve been reading great things about it and they’re just so effing purdy. But I hear now that some Wal-marts in Canada are now carrying the Hard Candy cosmetics line, so maybe there’s hope for me after all. I want ‘em all, but will settle for Living Doll (pictured left) and Honeymoon :B

wishlist wednesday: nars so famous set

Hmmhmm I’ve always wanted to try NARS, but the price point always holds me back.

Luckily, Sephora is now carrying a NARS combination value set that I think would be my perfect introduction to the brand.

The set features NARS faves in super-wearable shades: blush in Deep Throat, Velvet Matte lip pencil in Bettina, and Multiple in Orgasm. The blush and lip pencil are full-sized ($29 & $30 CAD, respectively, if purchased separately), and the mini-Multiple is a little less than 1/3 of the regular size (works out to be about $13). The only downer is what a markup it is once you click Canadian shipping—it goes from $44 USD to $60 CAD! What a total pain considering that the Canadian dollar pretty much par to the USD dollar :( This will definitely be on my to-peek-at list on some future cross-border shopping trip.

Sephora: $60 CAD
