review: revlon luxurious color satin eyeshadow in peacock lustre

I’ve been super busy/stressed/sleep-deprived over school projects recently, but finally, a new review!

Peacock Lustre was really an impulse buy: Ulta had buy one get one 50% and the colour was just so pretty and unique to my current stash of shadows. I don’t have a teal quite like this, since it leans more green than my other shadows. It sort of has a foresty-green base (I’m terrible at describing colours).

The large window on the packaging is great at showing off the colour and catching your eye at the drugstore, but overall the black plastic case feels a bit flimsy and cheap; I wouldn’t suggest throwing this in your bag where it could get knocked around a lot.

Not that it really affects my opinion of Peacock Lustre, but I personally I don’t feel it’s “peacock” enough—the shimmeriness is right, but it needs to be either brighter or deeper (see: Joe Fresh Peacock nail polish). For its price range, it feels fairly soft and smooth.

(Me wearing it + more info under the cut)

revlon-heavy haul

I picked up lots of drugstore goodies during an adventure to Washington state. I ended up buying a lot of Revlon products: two Luxurious shadows (Vintage Lace matte and Peacock Lustre Satin, ColorStay Brow Enhancer, lash adhesive, and a quad in Silver Fox. On the skin care side, I bought Garnier Moisture Rescue lotion and gel-cream, as well as the tinted anti-dark-circle roller. Everything else: Milani Baked Blush in Luminoso, NYX Jumbo Pencil in Milk, a WnW palette in Petal Pusher, and Burt’s Bees cuticle cream. I went back and got the China Glaze Sea Spray polish I really regretted not buying last time—look forward to seeing it tomorrow in a nail post!

Also, if you see a product here that you’d really like to read about, please let me know and I will try to put it on the top of my list :>

They may look stern but these turtle Pillow Pets I bought during the trip are ultra cuddly. They were so adorable I couldn’t not get them. One is a house-warming gift for my brother haha. It can lie flat to be used as a pillow and has a velcro strap underneath to pull the sides together and make it stand up like a normal stuffed animal (it is still super comfy as a pillow like this). If the two look different, it’s because they are. We bought them at two different Wal-marts and were shocked when we put them side-by-side. The colours as well as the shape of the head is different; my brother’s is also significantly fluffier/fatter.

dear eye makeup…

I MISS YOU ;______;

I’ve gotten the okay to wear eye makeup again but I am still on a regimen of several doses of eyedrops a day, which presents a new problem: excess eyedrop fluid smudging all my eye makeup. I’ve been avoiding eye makeup altogether to avoid the potential makeup disaster, but I’m really missing my gel liners and mascara. It looks like the next couple weeks will be a test of what products are the most waterproof/resistant.

Although I have a few waterproof eyeliners, I don’t have any waterproof mascara :< Have any suggestions for me?

annabelle smoothie eyeshadow pencil swatches

Spotted today at Shoppers: cute little eyeshadow pencils from Annabelle. I haven’t really had time to lurk Shoppers like I used to and check out the new spring collections coming out, so when I saw this new spring offering from Annabelle I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to swatch them.

Melonade, Mokamirage, Absinthe-Minded, BluBomb, Grapefull

Melonade, Mokamirage, and Absinthe-Minded have some shimmer to them, while BluBomb and Grapefull are more matte. The shade names are perfect matches to the colours they produce :> I was pleasantly surprised at how pigmented and creamy these pencils are. After taking the swatch photos in the store, I tried to wipe away the swatches with a tissue and they hardly budged! I was able to get most of it off by adding hand sanitizer to the tissue. From this I’m optimistic that they’re unlikely to crease or smudge; combined with the fact that they are so pigmented and smooth I might not be able to wait for a sale to pick them up!

These pencils are exclusive to Shoppers Drug Mart and are priced at $9.99.

swatches: hello kitty charmmy eyeshadow stick

I spied the Hello Kitty collection recently at Sephora. As expected, it seems to be pretty popular with a lot of people checking it out, so I was only able to get away with swatches for the Charmmy Eyeshadow Sticks—for now, that is.

Cupcake (pale gold-beige), Birthday Cake (light tan/bronze), Teacup (medium bronze), Cookies (warm brown), Sour Apple (gold-green), Fish Bowl (icy blue)

Overalls (pearly cool blue), Cream Puff (very pale lavender), Sweet Lavender (lilac), Cotton Candy (eggplant), Snowflake (silver)

Playground (dark gray), Kimono (near-black purply-blue)

The shades have super adorable names of course, although Cotton Candy kind of throws me off just because I don’t think of an eggplant/plum colour when I think of cotton candy.

All the Charmmy Eyeshadow Sticks have shimmer to them, although some more than others. Friendship is MIA as there was no tester available.

I liked the smooth application of these sticks and the colour payoff is pretty good. I found Birthday Cake, Teacup, Cookies, Sweet Lavender, Playground, and Kimono to have the smoothest texture.

These sticks are exclusive to Sephora and currently $21 CAD. Do you see any shades you’d like to pick up for yourself?

last minute stocking stuffers

How have you guys been? I was bad last week and didn’t post at all—it was a really busy week for me, between having my birthday and a couple Christmas events to attend. Are you all done your Christmas shopping, or are you getting it done at the last minute? As for me, I have everyone done but my mom (she’s the hardest to shop for).

I might be a week or two too late, but I thought I might as well put this out there for any last minute shoppers!

If you’re looking for something small and light on your wallet/credit card for a couple friends and family members, take advantage of all the value sets out there right now and break them up into several individual gifts :>

I’ve picked out a couple gift/value sets from Sephora to cover the people on your list from head to toe in different price ranges and varying brands, so take a look~~

Eyes/cheeks:

Tokidoki Robbery Palette ($51 CAD; $21 each): Three palettes, each containing four shadows and a bronzer/blush. With the palettes ranging from edgy to naturally glam, you can fit the palette to the individual’s makeup style. Check out my Wishlist Wednesday post about it for a couple swatches. Keep the collectible tin for yourself and use to store eyeliner pencils and hairpins :3

See also: Bare Escentuals All Wrapped Up Eye Collection ($43 CAD; $7 each), Urban Decay Little Sins Eyeshadow Primer Potion Set ($35 CAD; $8.75 each)

Lips:

MAKE UP FOR EVER Glossy Full Couleur Collection ($38 CAD; $12 each): Three lovely, full-sized MUFE glosses in super shiny and pigmented peachy-coral, cherry red, and bright pink.

See also: NARS Follow The Boys Lip Gloss Set ($49 CAD; $12.25 each), LORAC Tie Dye for Lip Gloss ($33 CAD; $6 each)

hard candy swatches

While I was checking out the Hard Candy display, I noticed that someone had opened/taken off the seals on some of the Meteor Eyes shadows and most of the Painted Lady lipsticks. Since Wal-Mart doesn’t really normally provide testers, I figured it was my duty as a beauty blogger to swatch and post :3

Meteor Eyes baked eyeshadows: 277 Lunar Eclipse, 276 Space Cadet, 272 Intergalactic

There’s a lot more glitter to these shadows than the swatches suggest. The green glitter in Space Cadet makes it look like a foresty green shadow in the pan, but the base shadow is bluish-green. I was really attracted to Lunar Eclipse because it looked like a beautiful gold, but of course that was just the glitter talking again. The base is sort of bronzey-brown. The shadows in general seemed to swatch pretty smoothly, but I think they’re more about the glitter than pigmentation.

See what I mean about that lovely gold? And yes, I did turn that shelf into my own personal display for the pictures :B

Painted Lady lipsticks—

top: Perfect 10

middle: Flirt, Knock-Out, Rush Hour, Kitten, On the Prowl, Crush

bottom: Party Girl, Night Out

These lipsticks are shiny and creamy (they reminded me of lip glosses actually) with zero glitter or shimmer. Just judging from the swatches, I liked them and wouldn’t expect them to dry out lips.

Because it’s Hard Candy, the packaging is cute and eye-catching. Each tube is decorated with old-school tattoo-style designs like sparrows, flaming dice, and cherries, and a pink ribbon hanging from the bottom.

I think I’m going to make a “reconnaissance” tag for every time I go into a store and snap pictures of displays and products.

wishlist wednesday: urban decay beauty in a box

With the holidays coming up soon, sampler sets and gift sets are starting show up everywhere. Have you had a peek at any?

Me personally, I’m eyeing the Urban Decay Beauty in a Box, which is packed full of various UD eye makeup goodies.

Included in the kit is:

  • Luminious Loose Eyeshadow in Gypsy, a burnished gold (0.04 oz)
  • UD Rocks in gold, green, and iridescent
  • 2 half-size Glide-On Eye Pencils in Graffiti (bright glittery green) and Oil Slick (glittery black)
  • 2 full-size Heavy Metal Glitter Eyeliners in green Mullet and pewter Spandex
  • full-size Primer Potion in Sin

All in all, a healthy sampling of some of UD’s best-loved eye products.

I’m always such a sucker for sets or kits because they almost always make for an awesome deal :B

super awesome gosh sale goodies

In what I assume is a clearout of products and shades that are discontinued (or about to be), I spied a crapton of GOSH products with $0.99 and $1.99 stickers at the Shoppers near my work. I’m a fan of GOSH for its lovely eyeliners and especially the X-Ceptional Wear foundation so I was immediately in :O!!! mode and got to work picking through everything.

When things that you know to be in the $10-25 range are $1-2, it’s really hard to stay focused and not just buy everything in sight but I think I came out okay. I resisted the purdy neutrals palettes (because I have so many) and opted for a Quattro Eye Shadow palette in Tropical Beach with a teal, two warm greens, and a buttery yellow. Since I really like my Quo Jumbo Lip Gloss Pencil, I got GOSH’s version in Gypsy Red. And since I’m starting to get into lipsticks, I added a Pearl Shine lipstick in Daiquiri to my growing collection. Hiding in the back underneath everything is a sleek jar of Loose Powder in Translucent.

I think I’m going to go back tomorrow to pick up a Creamy Compact foundation. I couldn’t find any reviews online, but it’s only $1.99 so I’ll live if it doesn’t work out.

Lurk your nearby Shoppers Drug Marts for GOSH products on clearance! They are mostly unopened and unused, but be careful because I took a peek at some of the lipsticks that were sealed with scotch tape to check out the colour (relax, I re-sealed it) and some of them didn’t twist up.

Happy hunting!

wishlist wednesday: benefit femme metale set

Exclusive and limited edition to Sephora is the new Benefit Femme Metale kit, full of shiny metallic eye makeup goodies. In this set are 3 full-size Creaseless Cream shadows and 3 new eyeliners, all of them gorgeous and totally up my alley. Considering one Creaseless Cream Eyeshadow is normally $24 CAD, $44 for this whole kit is a steal and a half. I want it!
