swatches: revlon super lustrous lipsticks (neutrals part 1)

There are actually 24 shades in the Neutrals range, so here’s part one. This time I took the swatch photos with flash on, which I think is a bit more accurate.

Coralberry (creme), Champagne on Ice (pearl), Sparkling Cider (pearl), Caramel Glacé (pearl), Sandalwood Beige (creme), Highbeam Tan (pearl)

Fun fact: my first blush ever was the Revlon blush with the rectangular pan in a shade called Sandalwood. And yes, I did use the tiny brush included.

Copper Chrome (pearl), Toast of New York (creme), Rum Raisin (creme), Blushing Nude (creme), Chocolate Velvet (creme), Cocoa Bronze (pearl)

I unintentionally took this second photo with my arm at a different angle in relation to the lighting overhead so these swatches look like have less of a shine than those in the first one.

Again, a very pigmented shade range. The only one that sticks out is Coralberry. This bright pink is a lovely colour (especially for Spring!) but seems like it would fit better with the Pinks. It is too bright to be in Neutrals and doesn’t have brown tones to it like the others.

swatches: revlon super lustrous lipsticks (reds)

Here are the long-awaited swatches for Revlon Super Lustrous lipsticks in the red range. You can see the swatches for the plum range here and my review for SL lipstick in Wine With Everything (a red!) here.

Peach Me (creme), Fire & Ice (creme), Ravish Me Red (creme), Love That Red (creme), Wine With Everything (creme)

Kiss Me Coral (creme), Wine With Everything (pearl), Spicy Cinnamon (pearl), Raspberry Bite (creme), Sultry Sable (creme), Blackberry (creme)

No duds here. I was quite impressed with the pigmentation, and they applied very smoothly. It was while swatching these shades that I fell for Wine With Everything, which I went on to love and review. It’s kind of strange that there are two Wine With Everything shades, but one is a frost/pearl (#520) and the other is the creme I own (#525). The creme is a deeper colour that doesn’t have as much pink.

I’ll try to take in-store swatches with a flash instead from now on. I think it captures the colour more accurately, even though it will probably attract more attention to the weird girl with lipstick up to her elbow 9______9

swatches: revlon super lustrous lipsticks (plums)

image

Temptress (creme), Rose & Shine (pearl), Berry Rich (creme), Goldpearl Plum (pearl)

image

Satin Plum (pearl), Plum Baby (pearl), Mauvy Night (creme), Icy Violet (pearl), Iced Amethyst (pearl)

image

Plumalicious (pearl), Berry Haute (creme), Va Va Violet (creme)

[Photo taken on the top side of my arm rather than the underside—that’s why the swatches don’t look as smooth!]

I’m not sure why some of these colours have been classified as plums (as specified by the Revlon Super Lustrous display) or what makes a colour plum in a technical sense. I’d call maybe the deeper half of the range plums, and the rest pink and red.

Most of the swatches here achieved lovely colour with 2-3 strokes, but there were a few exceptions. Satin Plum seems rather sheer and might not show up if you have pigmented lips. The swatch you see is about the most you can build this shade up to. On the other hand, Berry Rich was beautiful after just one stroke.

swatches: rimmel moisture renew lipsticks (pinks and mauves)

Rimmel Moisture Renew lipsticks with SPF 18 come in 24 shades, categorized into shade categories including the Pinks and Mauves range I swatched recently.

Pink Star, Fancy, Vintage Pink, Crystal Mauve, Amethyst Shimmer, Burgundy Lustre

MIA: Latino, Glamorous Pink, Electric Plum, Cherrylicious

Almost all the shades have shimmer (some more than others); Vintage Pink is the only lipstick swatched here with no shimmer.

I own Moisture Renew lipsticks in Soft Coral and Rose Sorbet and find them to be indeed non-drying and light to wear. They’re lovely for sheerer, natural look that provides enough colour to perk up your face.

wishlist wednesday: buxom big & healthy lip sticks

I’ve become a fan of lipsticks and glosses in pencil form since buying Quo’s and GOSH’s versions and I want more. Enter Buxom Big & Healthy Lip Sticks. I swatched them a while back and really fell for the lovely colours and smooth texture.

While it doesn’t look like your conventional lipstick, they are described as doing the job of one—and more, by providing the same creamy, pigmented colour while also giving the precision of a lip liner. Promised plumping abilities make the Lip Sticks a single product that does three different jobs. It also comes with its own sharpener so you can always have a sharp, well-defined tip to fill in your lips perfectly.

With the Lip Sticks’ huge colour range, it’s hard to name all my favourites without this post becoming an essay, but a few are Athens (coral), San Francisco (dusty mauve), and Barcelona (scarlet).

I’ve read some comments from people about certain shades not really matching with the hometown they know. What kind of shade would your city be? For me, Vancouver would be a your-lips-but-better kind of shade: unassuming, easy to wear but chic and makes you look put together, like a slightly muted rose with a hint of warmth.

wishlist wednesday: korres mango butter lipstick in purple 24

Sheer, super-moisturizing lip colour and SPF protection?

Korres Mango Butter Lipstick SPF 10 in Purple 24

I guess since I’ve had such a good experience with the Korres Lip Butters, I figure another Korres lip product, the Mango Butter Lipstick, can’t be that far off the mark!

I have to admit that based on the name alone, I wouldn’t have taken a second look at this shade since I like my pinks and corals, but since seeing swatches, I’ve really changed my mind. Sephora describes this shade as a mauve berry, which would be pretty accurate with what I saw. The colour is not as purple as I expected it to be, maybe because this lipstick is for a sheer look rather than full-colour. Swatches make Purple 24 out to be a pretty, natural-looking deep pink, which is right up my alley.

What’s on your wishlist this Wednesday?

Sephora: $23.50 CAD
Korres carries this product but does not ship to Canada.

quo “renaissance flare” reconnaissance mission!

Jenelle and I were trolling Shoppers Drug Mart again and spotted a shiny new Quo display!

Clockwise from front left (all in Canadian dollars): All Over Colour Stick ($15), Pump Up The Volume Mascara ($14), Sheer Lipliner ($12), Jumbo Lipgloss Stick ($12), Jumbo Eyeshadow Pencil ($15?), Renaissance Eyeshadow Quad ($20)

They’re calling it the Renaissance Flare collection. Today’s post has swatches and detail photos of the mascara, lipgloss sticks, and eyeshadow pencils, but here’s some info on the others:

  • All Over Colour Stick is a cream stick on one side with a dense, stiff brush on the other side to buff out the product

  • The eyeshadow quad palette is a compact with a mirror inside and comes with two small sponge tip applicators

  • I’m not a lipliner person, so I completely passed over the lipliners! If anyone requests it, I’ll check them out and swatch
