gold paisley(ish) konad

Rimmel English Rose • Orly Luxe • Konad image plate m60

This isn’t the greatest picture, but I really loved how this one turned out. I stamped the design on my nails at different angles/using different parts of the design since I like a little irregularity in my nail art :>

rimmel english rose with fishnet accent nail

Rimmel English Rose • Essie Pink Diamond • Konad image plate m57

The real colour of English Rose is somewhere between the two pictures.. it’s definitely not a brick red: it’s more of a berry and much cooler, but not as bright as the flash picture. Pink Diamond is a pearly light pink, so it ends up looking a bit like a subtle nude on top of English Rose. I got a lot of compliments on it ^o^

bright sunset gradient nails

I tried a gradient nail look with Revlon Mad About Mango, Essie Flirt, and Rimmel English Rose. The result is waaaay brighter than I expected but I kind of like it and it reminded me of a sunset. I think I picked shades that were too close to each other, because the gradient effect is really subtle unless under bright light. Even under flash it’s hard to see Flirt and English Rose as two separate colours.

I took a million pictures of this and I’m still (slowly) sorting through them so I may spam a few more pictures in later posts haha :>

testing colour combinations for konad

I apply the polish to a piece of clear tape, stamp it, then put it on my nails to figure out if I will like the look. Don’t judge me, it works!

rimmel lasting finish pro polish in english rose

Rimmel Lasting Finish Pro polishes have a much thicker and more dense brush than most polishes I’ve tried. The formula itself is also thicker so if you aren’t careful to brush excess polish back into the bottle, you get a really thick coat. Two coats is plenty for complete coverage.

English Rose is kind of a bright berry. The first coat was surprisingly bright, but the second darkens the colour a bit.

swatches: rimmel moisture renew lipsticks (pinks and mauves)

Rimmel Moisture Renew lipsticks with SPF 18 come in 24 shades, categorized into shade categories including the Pinks and Mauves range I swatched recently.

Pink Star, Fancy, Vintage Pink, Crystal Mauve, Amethyst Shimmer, Burgundy Lustre

MIA: Latino, Glamorous Pink, Electric Plum, Cherrylicious

Almost all the shades have shimmer (some more than others); Vintage Pink is the only lipstick swatched here with no shimmer.

I own Moisture Renew lipsticks in Soft Coral and Rose Sorbet and find them to be indeed non-drying and light to wear. They’re lovely for sheerer, natural look that provides enough colour to perk up your face.

review: rimmel lycra lash extender mascara

Hello, hello. I decided to suck up my lack of a mouse and just get ‘er done.

A lot of my FOTDs show me wearing Rimmel Lycra Lash, so I thought I should give up the details. Lycra Lash Extender mascara incorporates the elastic synthetic fiber Lycra; Rimmel promises that it will “stretch and extend” while holding a curl for 14 hours without smearing or smudging. These sleek black tubes of mascara come in 001 Black (today’s mascara) and 002 Brown.

haul happiness

Shoppers Drug Mart was having a 40% off sale on Quo brushes and Physicians Formula. I love the Physicians Formula Multi-Colored Face Powder and Shimmer Strips Bronzer I bought recently, so I was super excited about picking up more PF.

I know this seems like a really dinky haul by most standards, but it’s big-ish for me. I have this ridiculous thing where somehow it seems worse to spend $40 in one go than to spend $10 on four separate occasions, so I usually buy my makeup item by item.

Physicians Formula Pop! Shimmer Strips Custom Eye Enhancing Shadow & Liner for green eyes, Quo Eye Smudger brush, Quo Crease Shadow brush, Rimmel Lasting Finish lipstick in Just So, Hersheys Cookies & Cream, Arizona green tea. The beauty advisor also threw in samples for Lise Watier Neiges eau de toilette, Smashbox Photo Finish Light foundation primer, and Burberry Sport eau de toilette.

Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Eye Enhancing mascara comes with a full mail-in rebate. I was on the fence, but after checking out the good reviews (the mascara itself being good, rather than its eye-enhancing abilities) I might have to take up Physicians Formula’s offer. Also considering picking up the Organic Wear Tinted Moisturizer. I’m on a PF obsession!

Also ran by Save On Foods for NYX Jumbo Eyeshadow Pencil in Horseradish and Round lipstick in Topaz. Of all places, the last place I expected to find NYX was at Save On Foods (with testers!) In Vancouver, I haven’t seen it in Shoppers, London Drugs, or any other of my normal drugstore go-tos. It’s funny standing in checkout holding my eyeshadow pencil and lipstick because I don’t want to put it on the conveyor belt.

In my last FOTD I mentioned going to an Olympic merchandise sale (it’s at 3700 East Hastings, on the corner of Hastings and Boundary btw), so I thought I’d squeeze into this post what I picked up.

Super cute striped Billabong hoodie: it has very long sleeves which is perfect for long-armed freaks like me.

Quatchi and Mukmuk keychain plushies, Mukmuk luggage tag: they’re so cute but you really have to sort through the plushies because not all of them are well-made. If you aren’t familiar with them, they are part of the Vancouver Olympics mascot team and inspired by West Coast native legends (Quatchi is a sasquatch, Mukmuk is a marmot—a real animal—and kind of a “mascot sidekick” because he doesn’t appear on all the merchandise like the others). Mukmuk is Andy’s favourite because it’s fat and “shaped like a potato.”
